The City of Imatra's IT administration strengthens its services and expertise with the support of Above IT.
Located on the shores of Lake Saimaa and known for its rapids, Imatra is a vibrant traditional tourism and industrial city near the southeastern border. Previously, the city did not have a clear overall picture of the email security situation, which exposed it to CEO fraud, among other things. With the help of Above IT, the City of Imatra implemented DMARC protection, enabling reliable and secure email transmission.

However, the challenge with email is verifying the sender’s identity. “Without email security measures, anyone could send a message from the imatra.fi address, for example, in the name of the city manager to the financial manager,” Petri emphasizes, highlighting the importance of information security.
These risks are mitigated with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC protection mechanisms, with DMARC acting as a “confirming lock.” Without DMARC, other protections are easily circumvented, so its use is increasingly required, as seen with major players like Google and Yahoo.
The City of Imatra wanted to be at the forefront of this development. In addition to a higher level of protection, the city monitors its email traffic to prevent misuse, which is particularly important in the municipal sector, where information security risks are high. At the same time, it ensures that communication from different systems functions smoothly and important messages do not end up in spam.
