In the seventh part of the tutorial video series, Above IT’s ‘consigliere’ Lauri Haveri goes through the Microsoft Sentinel SIEM solution. So what is SIEM (Security Information and Event Management)? At the very least, a SIEM solution logs security events in your IT environment. This will be explained in more detail in Lauri’s video. Here’s some facts gathered from public information: In 2025, the Mean Time to Identify (MTTI) for security breaches was on average about 181-195 days (6-7 months).
For this reason, the log data of security events in the IT environment should be stored and kept safe for a bit longer than what different security solutions keep their own logs by default. For example, the Cybersecurity Agency recommends keeping security-related event logs for at least one year. Typically, the solutions chosen for this purpose have been expensive, but Microsoft’s Sentinel solutions have changed the playing field.
Microsoft Sentinel is Defender security’s best friend and helps your IT management form a comprehensive picture of security events. For Business Premium licensing, we consider Sentinel even a mandatory addition for logging various events.
