Migrating to the Azure cloud from a traditional server environment can be a significant step. On-premise servers in your own server room or data center are often over-provisioned to account for future needs, and simply moving them as-is to any cloud will likely only increase IT management costs. Furthermore, it’s not always advisable to move everything to the cloud, especially not in its existing form. Therefore, a comprehensive plan and a clear roadmap for implementation are typically required.
How to Azure Cloud?
The Azure cloud, like any other cloud or data center, requires preparation before migrating your resources. It is essential to have a plan for how resources will be grouped within cloud services, what network architecture will be implemented for these resources, and how various management and security measures will be enabled. For Azure, this involves discussing the Azure management model and various Azure Landing Zones, which, as strategic plans, facilitate more intelligent cloud utilization.
Migration and Cost Assessment
Azure Migrate tools in the Azure cloud enable a very comprehensive assessment of the current server environment and its various resources. The toolset includes, for example, pre-built virtual machine disk images that can be installed in your own virtualization environment to analyze your server environment’s resource allocation. By using these tools to assess your environment and its service dependencies, you can gain valuable insight into the resources required for the Azure cloud and their associated costs.
What kind of project to start with?
We have successfully implemented various Azure Migrate-based resource and cost assessments. These have often been carried out in collaboration with Microsoft, as broader Rapid Migration Assessment-type evaluations. Regardless of the scope of implementation, they all aim for the same goal: to clarify the necessary resource and cost structure for the Azure cloud.
As Azure cloud experts, we aim to ensure the functionality and cost-effectiveness of your Azure cloud resources. Judicious planning will lead to an optimized outcome and ensure end-user satisfaction.
